Healing is Energy Reclamation: Why Your Body is Still "Managing" Your Past
We often treat healing like a home renovation project. We think we need to go back into the "rooms" of our past, tear down the wallpaper, and fix what’s broken. But after years of facilitating breathwork and holding space in men’s circles, I’ve come to see it differently.
Healing isn’t about fixing the past. It’s about stopping the "energy leak."
True healing occurs the moment you stop using today’s vital energy to manage yesterday’s story.
The Invisible "Management Tax"
Think of your daily energy like a battery. Most of us wake up and immediately start running "background apps" without realizing it. These apps are our defenses:
Hyper-vigilance: Scanning your environment for the same threats that hurt you years ago.
Bracing: Holding physical tension in your jaw, shoulders, or gut as a shield.
Suppression: Spending active mental force to keep old memories or "unacceptable" emotions from surfacing.
This is what I call the Management Tax. If you are spending 40% of your power just to keep your past "in check," you only have 60% left for your business, your family, and your purpose. No wonder we’re exhausted.
Why You Can’t "Think" Your Way to Freedom
The mistake most of us make is trying to talk our way out of the drain. We use logic, telling ourselves, "I’m over that now," or "It’s in the past." But your nervous system doesn’t take orders from your logic. It takes orders from Safety.
Your body is the gatekeeper of your energy. If your nervous system—the brainstem and the gut—still feels like the "war" is on, it will refuse to shut down those background apps. It will keep bracing because it believes that bracing is what keeps you alive. You cannot "decide" to let go; you have to prove to your body that it is safe enough to let go.
Conscious Connected Breathwork: The System Update
This is where Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB) becomes the most powerful tool in the shed.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, CCB bypasses the analytical "Manager" in your head. By removing the pauses in the breath, we build a physiological charge that hunts down where the past is "stuck" in your tissues.
In the safety of a facilitated container, we show the nervous system a new reality: You can feel this intensity, you can revisit this sensation, and you are still secure. When the body finally receives that signal of safety, it does something miraculous it drops the shield.
The Importance of the "Long Game": Repetition & Integration
Here is the honest truth: You didn’t start paying the "Management Tax" overnight, and you won’t rewrite the entire program in one sixty-minute session.
1. The Power of Repetition
Your body has "muscle memory" for survival. It is used to the bracing. To truly change the default setting of your nervous system from Survival to Sovereignty, you have to show it safety more than once. Repetition is how we move from "visiting" a healed state to "living" in one.
2. The Bridge of Integration
The "reclamation" doesn't finish when you get off the mat. That’s just where it begins. Integration is the process of taking the reclaimed energy and deciding where to invest it. It’s the work you do in the 48 hours after a session the journaling, the silence, the conscious choices that anchors the change. Without integration, we just have an experience. With integration, we have a transformation.
Bringing Your Power Home
You aren't "broken," and you don't need "fixing." You are simply over-leveraged. You’ve been paying interest on a debt you no longer owe.
By showing the body safety through the breath, we stop the leak. We settle the debt. We bring that 40% of redirected power back home to the present moment.
You aren't just breathing to relax. You’re breathing to reclaim your life.
Big Love
Chris
